About the Exhibition:

Following Spirit is the reclamation of indigenous spirituality, and a reflection on the journey of self discovery within Eva Aguila’s ancestral land of Michoacán. Using familial archives and research, the exhibition threads moving images, rubbings, ancestral items, and infrasound frequencies all from her P'urhepecha ancestry. The exhibition includes an audio visual installation intimately exploring the synchronicities between petroglyphs, ancestral memory, and Spirit with infrasound frequency interpretations and sculpture. A short documentary about the under-examined and fragmented history of the P'urhepecha nation is featured through a series of interviews and discussions with the artist. By engaging the audience through various senses, Following Spirit merges the multiplicities of spiritual life, art-making, and land into one.
